The Four Keys to Coaching™

Practical Skills for Creating Coaching Excellence, Productivity, and Fulfillment in a Business Environment

Powerful coaches are inspiring models. They demonstrate a generous listening, not just hearing; are masterful in their use of language and drawing of distinctions, in developing employees, and producing extraordinary results.

A coach is able to see beyond complaints and unproductive behavior and speak to the values and needs of all. A coach is able to get beyond mere symptoms to the source of problems; is concerned with “who” someone is, not just “what” they are doing; and is a model of attraction, not manipulation.

The Four Keys to Coaching is a one-day practical workshop that gives managers the basic skills they need to be effective coaches. The shifts that managers make to coaching are:

From Expert to Partner
Managers tend to be the expert and information-giver. Coaches work to bring out the answers and brilliance of the person being coached so they may experience their own strengths.

Sources vs. Symptoms
As a leader, it is easy to become the firefighter. As you coach, you learn to look for the source of problems and eliminate them once and for all.

Developing vs. Managing
Coaching is more than getting people to do what you need them to do. It is about developing the individual so they will exceed even their own expectations.

The Four Keys to Coaching. The coaching model we use is simple.:

  • Listening

The sensitivity and generosity to hear what is really going on

  • Language

Powerful dialogue and strong messages create new realities

  • Accessing Wisdom

Asking the right questions allows for natural wisdom

  • Requesting Action

4 steps to effective action and accountability

Although the awareness of the four keys is essential, practicing the keys is paramount to developing an effective coach. Participants will begin to practice coaching within the first hour of the course. This is delivered in a half-day or full day format.

The Leaders of The Four Keys to Coaching are individuals who have completed a two-three year coach’s training school, are certified by the International Coach Federation, and been full time professional coaches for at least five years.
